Research

For those trainees with an interest in clinical or basic sciences research, our neurosurgery program offers several excellent opportunities. A Masters or Ph.D. program is encouraged. We have ongoing research projects in areas of spinal cord injury, pediatric neurosurgery, degenerative spondylosis, epilepsy surgery, and neurosurgical oncology.

Programs and Services

This is a clinical unit to take care of patients with hydrocephalus and CSF disorders run by a neurosurgeon, a nurse coordinator and an administrative staff in collaboration with neurologists, geriatric medicine specialists, ophthalmologists, family physicians and therapists.

The Division of Neurosurgery is an important player in the Saskatchewan Epilepsy Program, providing diagnostic and therapeutic seizure surgery for adult and pediatric patients.

The functional neurosurgery program at the University of Saskatchewan provides comprehensive care for patients with movement disorders, pain and psychiatric disorders. The services are offered in both Regina and Saskatoon.

The Pediatric Neurosurgery Program at the University of Saskatchewan provides comprehensive pediatric neurosurgery care to the children and families of Saskatchewan. This includes providing neurosurgical services for children across the spectrum of pediatric neurosurgical disorders, including hydrocephalus, craniofacial, spine, spina bifida, neuro-oncology, trauma, vascular, epilepsy, spasticity and functional disorders.

Associated with the division of neurosurgery, the Saskatchewan Cerebrovascular Centre provides leading treatments and is a key player in the field of stroke and cerebrovascular research. Visit the official CSVC Research Group Website.

The Saskatchewan Skull Base Surgery Program aims to provide excellent comprehensive, multidisciplinary, compassionate, patient-centered care for patients with conditions involving the skull base in Saskatchewan. These include tumors (vestibular and other cranial nerve schwannomas, pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas, skull base meningiomas, chordomas) as well as non-tumour conditions (cerebrospinal fluid leak, encephalocele, superior semicircular canal dehiscence).

The Division of Neurosurgery is an integral part of spine care in Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Spine Pathway. We treat all disorders affecting the spine including trauma, degenerative conditions, scoliosis and tumors.
