Purpose
The purpose of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Grading Policy is to establish a standardized, equitable system of assigning grades to learners within a competency-based assessment framework.
Scope
This policy applies to all students and faculty in the MPAS program at the University of Saskatchewan and governs the assignment of ‘Pass/Fail’ status in alignment with the competency-based assessment approach of the MPAS program.
Grading System
The grading reference table below provides a corresponding competency-based equivalency to more traditional grading methods.

C+ | 65-69% | 2.3 | Pass |
C | 60-64% | 2.0 | Pass |
F | <60% | 0.0 | Fail |
Supplemental Assessments
- Eligibility: Students scoring 50–59% may request one supplemental exam.
- Maximum Attempts: 1 supplemental per course; failure results in remediation.
Remediation Plan
Triggered by:
- Failure of ≥1 courses in a term.
- Supplemental exam failure (<60%).
Probation & Dismissal
- Probation: Automatically imposed after failing any repeated course.
- Dismissal: After two failed remediation attempts or three course failures
Quality Assurance
- Standard Setting: Exams use modified Angoff method to ensure 60% reflects minimum competence.
- Clinical Safeguards: Students passing at 60–69% receive mandatory academic advising.
