Getting to Know: Joan Aquino

Joan Aquino is the Finance and Administration Coordinator for the Department of Medicine.

Hi, I’m Joan Aquino. I’m your contact for finance and administrative support, alongside Lindsay Doig. I grew up in Palawan, Philippines, and moved to Canada with my family when I was 15.

I completed a Diploma in Business and Accounting, which laid the foundation for my career in finance and administration.

I’ve working in several different units at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), including roles as a Finance Coordinator at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, the Diefenbaker Canada Centre, and the College of Arts and Science. I’ve also worked as an Office Administrator and Finance Officer in the Edwards School of Business, as an Accounting Assistant in the Controller’s Office, and as a Clerical Assistant in the College of Medicine.

I joined the Department of Medicine in March 2025. In my current role, I prepare financial reports, support reconciliations, assist with hiring and onboarding, manage time approvals, submit journal entries, process invoices, investigate missing transactions, and support a wide range of financial and administrative functions. What I enjoy most is being part of a high‑performing team that supports both the academic and clinical sides of USask and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, contributing to the success of current and future physicians.

Outside of work, I’m committed to personal growth, active in my church community, and enjoy snowboarding in the winter and spending time outdoors throughout the summer.
