Panelist Speakers

This year, we will be hosting a panel discussion

with Dr. Stacey Lovo, Dr. Hadi Goubran Messiha, and Dr. Valerie Verge

The panel will take place October 15th, 2025 at 3:00 pm via Zoom. 

Dr. Stacey Lovo

Dr. Lovo is a fourth generation settler living and working on Treaty 6 Territory and Homeland of the Métis Peoples. Stacey is a Physical Therapist by background and mom of 2 young adults. Stacey works in collaboration with rural and remote Indigenous communities to enhance access to rehabilitation and primary care options through virtual health models. She also works in partnership with communities to advocate for culturally responsive and anti-racist care. 

Dr. Hadi Goubran Messiha

Dr. Hadi Goubran Messiha obtained his M.B.B.Ch. from Cairo University, Egypt, and subsequently earned a Master’s degree, followed by an M.D. and Ph.D. in internal medicine from the same university. Trained as a hematologist at St. Thomas' Hospital in the UK, and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP Edin), a member, then a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK).

He worked as Professor of Hematology at Cairo University, Egypt, before moving to Canada in 2010. Joined the Saskatoon Cancer Centre as a hematologist and was appointed as Professor of Hematology and Oncology at the College of Medicine of the University of Saskatchewan and the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Served as regional Adviser for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh for Egypt, then Eastern Canada, till 2024.

Contributed to the writing of Davidson’s clinical cases, served on the international advisory board of the textbook, and edited the book Precision Anticoagulation Medicine and Paraproteinemia and Related Disorders (Springer-Nature). Also served as a reviewer and editorial member for a  few hematology journals. Published around 70 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and editorials in the last ten years and a few book chapters. Research interests include blood-derived biomaterials, viral inactivation of plasma (6 patents), platelet cancer interactions, and platelet microparticles.  

Dr. Valerie Verge

Dr. Valerie Verge is a neuroscientist, a USask Distinguished Professor and Distinguished Researcher and Director of the CoM Cameco MS Neuroscience Research Centre located in Saskatoon City Hospital. Her longstanding research program focusses on nervous system repair and developing strategies that significantly enhance the ability of the nervous system to repair itself using preclinical peripheral nerve injury and MS models. Her many distinctions include being an MRC Scholar, President of the Canadian Association for Neuroscience, the 2019 MS Canada Women against MS honouree, receiving the 2025 AFMC scientist and being named to Stanford University’s list of 2% most highly cited scientists worldwide. She is also a strong advocate for neuroscience research and a committed mentor.
