About

Dr. Hnenny was born and raised in Saskatoon. He attended the University of Saskatchewan, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Honours degree, with High Honours, in 2003, and his MD in 2007. Neurosurgical residency training was similarly completed at the U of S in 2013, and he became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Following residency, he underwent subspecialty training in skull base and cerebrovascular surgery at OHSU in Portland OR, during which time he gained expertise in microsurgical management of complex brain tumors and cerebrovascular lesions. From 2014-2016, Dr. Hnenny worked as a neurosurgeon and clinical assistant professor of neurosurgery at the Regina General Hospital. 2017-2018 was spent at UPMC in Pittsburgh PA, undergoing fellowship training in complex spine surgery with a focus on minimally invasive lateral approaches to the thoracolumbar spine, and spinal deformity surgery. Since 2018, Dr. Hnenny has worked as a neurosurgeon and assistant professor of neurosurgery at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. His practice consists primarily of skull base and spinal surgery, but he also cares for patients with a broad range of general neurosurgical conditions. Currently, Dr. Hnenny serves as founder and Director of the Saskatchewan Skull Base Surgery Program. He also serves as the Competency Committee Chair for the University of Saskatchewan Neurosurgical Residency Training Program. He is conducting research on molecular genetics of meningioma, and immunologic profiling of high grade glioma. Outside the hospital, Dr. Hnenny loves spending time with his wife and daughter.
