Dr. Oyekunle's research is driven by a commitment to improving mental health outcomes across diverse populations and care settings. His scholarly work focuses on three interconnected areas:
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health: His research has examined critical issues affecting young populations, including the psychological wellbeing of mothers in neonatal care units and the impact of bullying victimization among secondary school students.
- Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry: He has a strong clinical and research interest in addiction and its intersection with mental health, aligning with departmental initiatives exploring the relationship between substance use and psychiatric disorders.
- Psychiatric Epidemiology and Health Services: His prior work includes assessing the urgency of mental health presentations in emergency departments. About
Dr. Olufemi Oyekunle is an assistant professor at the University of Saskatchewan and a consultant psychiatrist with privileges at the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
He is a board-certified consultant psychiatrist, holding a fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPSC), and brings over 14 years of progressive clinical experience to his role. His expertise spans general, child and adolescent, geriatric, addiction, and community psychiatry, completemented by a Master of Science in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Dr. Oyekunle holds active medical licenses in both Alberta and Saskatchewan and has a distinguished track record of delivering comprehensive, patient-centered mental health care across inpatient and outpatient settings within the Canadian healthcare system.
Dr. Oyekunle is highly skilled in biopsychosocial assessment, multidisciplinary collaboration, and clinical leadership. He is adept at integrating telehealth solutions to expand access to care. Driven by a deep commitment to advancing mental health, he is actively engaged in academic research and medical education. His special clinical interests lie in addiction medicine and psychiatry, and he is passionate about advocating for innovative, quality-driven care.
