About
Dr. Maria Giroux has a subspecialty urogynecology practice in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she provides a range of surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for pelvic floor disorders. She completed a Bachelor of Science at Laurentian University (2012); Doctor of Medicine at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (2016); Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at the University of Saskatchewan (2021); and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital at the University of Toronto (2023). She completed subspecialized training in long-term management of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIs), including endoanal ultrasound performance and interpretation, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto (2023) and Croydon University Hospital, United Kingdom (2023). She also completed additional training in chronic pelvic pain at the Chronic Pain Centre in Calgary (2024). Dr. Giroux is currently completing Master of Science (MSc) in Pain Management at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom and focusing her dissertation on management of persistent postpartum pain in patients with OASIs. She also has an interest in leadership and completed Executive Healthcare Leadership and Healthcare Change Leadership programs at Cornell University (2021).
Dr. Giroux has a special interest in management of OASIs and persistent postpartum pain. She established the Centre for Obstetric Pelvic Health & Reconstructive Surgery (Centre for OASIS), which is a clinic dedicated towards patients with OASIs and pelvic floor disorders that provides care for women in Saskatchewan. She co-led a multidisciplinary team to establish the Saskatchewan OASIs Care Pathway, which launched in 2021. She is co-authoring both the international IUGA’s OASIS guideline and the national SOGC’s OASIS guideline. She is collaborating with IUGA’s Obstetric Pelvic Floor and Anal Sphincter Injuries Special Interest Group to advance obstetrical trauma patient and provider education nationally and internationally.
She has an immense interest for clinical research in OASIs and supervises learners at the University of Saskatchewan. She also has an interest in medical education and led a multidisciplinary team to create an educational resource entitled the OBGYN Academy. This is a national collaboration aimed to advance patient care through patient and provider education.
