Neurosurgery Mandatory Courses

Categories: Surgery Neurosurgery

Canadian Neurosurgery Rookie Camp: This is an introduction to neurosurgery course that is attended by the majority of new residents from across Canada. I think it is invaluable for our residents. It is also very economical.

AOSpine North America Course: This is an excellent spine course and is also funded by Synthes the majority of the time.

Hands on Spine Course: This course is through the University of Calgary. The resident reviews of this course are excellent and it allows our residents to meet other western Canadian residents and neurosurgeons.

Lougheed Microsurgical Course: This is put on by the University of Toronto. It is quite economical. From personal experience, this course is excellent and invaluable for more senior residents.

Canadian Neurosurgery Review Course: The resident feedback from this course is excellent. It gives a Canadian perspective of the Royal College Exam and is attended by the majority of Canadian Neurosurgery trainees. We dropped the Chicago review course in neurosurgery for this course because of cost and lack of relevance to the Canadian exam.

Goodman ABNS Oral Board Review Course: This is an excellent exam prep course where the candidates gets extensive coaching and practice in oral exams from many experts. From personal experience this course allowed me to do very well on the neurosurgery Royal College examination.

Calgary Spine & Peripheral Nerve Anatomy Course: This course is held in Calgary and is targeted towards Neurosurgery & Orthopedic residents in Canadian Residency Training Programs and offers an immersive three-day cadaveric dissection course for 14 participants. The resident reviews of this course are excellent and it allows our residents to meet other western Canadian residents and neurosurgeons.

Comprehensive Clinical Neurosurgery Review: This course takes place in Krakow, Poland. It is an excellent review course to help prepare a resident to write
the Royal College Examination.
