2025 Research Day

Place: University Club Window Room  Location - University Club | University of Saskatchewan

Dr. Davis, Darryl will be the keynote speaker at the Research Day. Dr. Davis is a clinician-scientist and cardiac electrophysiologist in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He directs the Cardiac Translational Research Laboratory. He is a professor in the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa where he is cross appointed to the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.

 

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Division of Continuing Medical Education, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. You may claim a maximum of 2.25 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

Faculty Research Day Awards

The Department of Medicine’s Faculty Research Day was held on May 2. Awards were presented at the Annual Banquet by Dr. Josh Lawson, the Director of Research for the Department of Medicine.

Three presentations received research awards:

  • First place presentation: Jay Shavadia (Associate Professor Cardiology), Title: "Sodium Glucose Cotransporter 2 inhibitors Preceding ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction: Global Proteomics and Pathobiological Insights"

Angelica Lang receives award from Josh Lawson.

  • Second place presentation: Angelica Lang (Assistant Professor CCRAH), Title: "Exploring upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms after gender-affirming top surgery"

 

  • Third place presentation: Kerri Schellenberg (Medical Director ALS Clinic, Medical Director EMG Lab, Associate Professor Neurology), Title: "Electric Impedance Tomography Detects Lung Volume Changes in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis"

2024 Award Winners

The 2024 Faculty Research Day was held on Friday, May 3. This was a hybrid (in-person and virtual) event, with six divisions and multiple regions of the province represented. Awards were presented at the Department of Medicine annual banquet by Dr. Robert Skomro, Interim Director of Research.   

Three presentations received research awards. These were:

  • First place: Kerri Schellenberg, Division of Neurology, Title:ALS Health Care Provider Wellness.”

  • Second place: Michael Prystajecky, Division of General Internal Medicine, Title: “Virtual multidisciplinary preoperative assessment: a pilot study.”

  • Third place: Dr. Erika Penz, Division of Respirology, Title: “Premature loss of life in a cohort of patients with COPD and Lung Cancer in Saskatchewan: A Retrospective study.”
