Infectious Diseases

Saskatoon

The Division of Infectious Diseases in Saskatoon consists of clinicians who specialize in adult infectious diseases and operate primarily out of Royal University Hospital, as well as one PhD researcher. Members are actively involved in the Saskatchewan Infectious Disease Care Network which provides HIV and HepC support to marginalized neighbourhoods in Saskatoon and northern communities in Saskatchewan. Members are also part of the Infection Prevention and Control team, dedicated to preventing infections in care facilities.  

Research interests include diagnosis and treatment of infections in immunocompromised individuals, as well as antimicrobial stewardship, quality improvements and patient safety.

Regina

The Division of Infectious Diseases in Regina consists of physicians who provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services for Regina and southern Saskatchewan. Clinical care involves a multi-disciplinary care team primarily focused on HIV and viral hepatitis. Members support the antimicrobial stewardship program and work in partnership with infection prevention and control, medical microbiology and public health.

Clinical care has a strong focus on HIV and hepatitis C amongst vulnerable populations. The division embraces an outreach model of care in Regina and beyond. There is a significant focus on Indigenous health with outreach care involving numerous First Nation communities and community organizations.

The Division of Infectious Diseases has a very robust research program amongst its members including clinical trials, CIHR funded research and researcher initiated studies. Further, members are involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education sessions and initiatives.
