About

Abbas Khani-Hanjani finished his undergraduate and PhD degree in Experimental Medicine and Immunology at the University of British Columbia. He attended medical school at the University of Calgary and trained in the Cardiac Surgery residency program at the University of Alberta. Dr. Khani-Hanjani spent a year in Edmonton doing a fellowship in heart and lung transplantation. He then pursued a two-year fellowship in Mechanical Circulatory Support and Aortic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Ohio, during which he trained to perform many complex surgical cases of patients with heart failure, complex aortic pathologies and re-do surgeries. Since, he has worked as a staff member in a few Canadian centres including Foothills Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital and the London Health Sciences Centre. Throughout his journey, Dr. Khani-Hanjani has been exposed and involved in implementing many different approaches and programs for variety of patient care; he is planning to use his expertises in implementing new programs and approaches with the team at Royal University Hospital for Cardiac Surgery patients.

Dr. Khani-Hanjani has his Royal College of Canada Certification in Cardiovascular Surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He also holds a Fellowship certification from the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Khani-Hanjani’s clinical research interests are in improving patient care by studying outcome result and quality control data; in area of basic sciences he is interested in studying the genetic basis of heart disease in populations in order to identify the modifiable risk factors for new therapeutic targets and interventions.
Dr. Khani-Hanjani believes there is an excellent opportunity for him in the Cardiac Surgery Division at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon to pursue both his academic and clinical goals. He is very excited to be here and be part of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and a member of the “heart team”.

During his free time, Dr. Khani-Hanjani enjoys the peacefulness of being outdoors and appreciating nature from up close
