Dr. Gillies joined the Department in 1991. She has a private practice in Saskatoon:Integrative Dynamic Adult Psychiatry Practice, specializing in:

  • Mood (Depression and Bipolar)
  • Anxiety disorders (OCD, Gen., Panic and Social Anxiety)
  • Adult ADHD (Complex Dysregulation) 
  • Developmental Trauma and PTSD
  • Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (often in the context of introducing a spiritual backdrop)
  • Couple Therapy: Developmental Dynamic Model (applied neuroscience and attachment work)
  • Group Therapy: (dynamic work)
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
  • Case Collaborative Consultation work with family physician practices    

Teaching and Administrative Roles in Psychiatry Residency Training Program:

  • Coordinator, Psychotherapy Training Committee
  • Curriculum Development: (2015-2018)
  • Created a new comprehensive developmental format to the PGY-2 and PGY3-4 Psychotherapy Curriculum  

Within the Department, Dr. Gillies is a member of several committees: Residency Training Committee, Curriculum Review Committee, RTC Assessment Committee, and the CaRMS Selection Committee.


Dr. Gillies teaches more than 45 courses in the Psychotherapy Curriculum (PGY-2 and PGY3-4): 

  • Basic Interviewing Skills Course: The Difficult Patient, Resistance, and Personality Disorders in Clinical Practice 
  • Neural Integration in Mental Health and Wellness
  • Applied Neuroscience in Clinical Practice and Psychotherapy
  • Advanced Dynamic Formulation: An Integrative Developmental Model In Psychiatric Practice 
  • Developmental Character Organization: Dynamic Understanding of Personality Disorder in Clinical Practice 
  • Developmental Model of Couples Therapy: Integrating Attachment, Differentiation, and Neuroscience  

In addition, Dr. Gillies offers psychodynamic psychotherapy supervision to about six residents a year, and selective rotation for Senior Residents interested in further developing and applying their dynamic skill-set applied to an Integrated Dynamic Psychiatry practice. She is a STACER Examiner, and a coordinator, Continuing Professional Learning Psychotherapy Group. 

My Teaching Vision: Integrative Dynamic Psychiatry
"My teaching vision, within the residency program over the past three decades, has been to challenge out-dated dichotomies dictating artificial and inaccurate divisions within this field, specifically relating to psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. I have worked hard at promoting the skill development necessary for residents to engage in integrative dynamic psychiatry work.  Rather than simply using medication and psychotherapy concurrently, it is the more sophisticated blending and synthesis of psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, along a neurobiological interface, and anchored within a dynamic frame, that leverages optimal efficacy and efficiency in practice. Through the comprehensive development of an Applied Clinical Neuroscience course, an Advanced Psychodynamic Formulation course, and Developmental Character Organization seminar series, my ambition has been to offer an incremental, developmental approach, using both didactic and experiential instruction, for residents to learn the skill-set necessary to develop competence and expertise in Integrative Dynamic Psychiatry." - Dr. Pamela Gillies
