About

Dr. Angela Baerwald completed a PhD in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa. She worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, prior to competing a medical degree and residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Baerwald is currently a clinician scientist within the Department of Academic Family Medicine, and Associate member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has a general family practice, with a subspecialty interest in women’s health, low risk infertility, and low risk obstetrics. Her research involves characterizing changes in ovarian and uterine structure and function during spontaneous menstrual cycles, hormonal contraceptive cycles, ovulation induction, and the transition to menopause. Her research includes the use of novel high resolution ovarian imaging tools such as 3D/4D ultrasonography, ultrasound biomicroscopy and the synchrotron. Dr. Baerwald’s research, in collaboration with Drs. Roger Pierson and Donna Chizen, has characterized multiple waves of follicular growth during the menstrual cycle. This work has led to novel ovarian stimulation therapies, including random start and double ovarian stimulation, which have been adopted globally.
