If forced to use a buzzword to describe my teaching I would pick "experiential learning" or, to put that more simply, you learn by doing.  While memorizing facts is important in any discipline, if a student is unable to connect those pieces of trivia and incorporate them into their problem solving skills they are not equipped to really understand the material.  The value of labs and in-class problems cannot be underestimated in giving students a chance to truly integrate new information into their growing body of knowledge.
