Studies on nerve-muscle interactions, and other factors, which regulate the differentiation and maturation of vertebrate skeletal muscle cells. Immunocytochemical and electrophoretic techniques are used to examine the distribution of myosin heavy chain isoforms and myogenic regulatory factors in skeletal muscles and muscle cells. Work is currently focused on satellite cells, which are the tiny stem cells responsible for the postnatal growth, regeneration and repair of the much larger skeletal muscle cells.
