Amy Winik: Figures it Out and Gets it Done

The College of Medicine Staff Awards recognize outstanding staff across the college who go above and beyond in their roles.

By AMANDA WORONIUK

Amy Winik is an administrative coordinator in Faculty Development and manages the daily tasks of the office including coordinating with team members across the province.

She was nominated by the Faculty Development team in the Create-It category for the 2022 College of Medicine Staff Awards. This category is awarded to a staff member or team who has been nominated for an achievement that may not fit within the scope of other awards.

Amy’s colleagues customized the award for her, calling it the “Figures it Out and Gets it Done" because “this epitomizes Amy's approach to her work; benefiting our programming and facilitating the work Faculty Development does to advance the strategic directions of the college.”

Her nominators praised her outstanding organizational skills and ability to juggle the various commitments of Faculty Development's operations and connect faculty with resources. Amy's many responsibilities include program and event support, website management and annual report coordination.

We asked Amy for her thoughts on receiving this award.

The following interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

What was your reaction when you learned you were named the recipient of this award?

Surprised!

What does it mean to you to be recognized in this way?

I work with an amazing group of people and to know that they came together to create and submit this award means the most to me. I am honoured.

What motivates you to go above and beyond within your department/unit?

I enjoy learning new things, being challenged, and finding solutions to make things more efficient. I’m grateful to the great leaders I have who inspire me to be passionate about my job.

What work/professional accomplishment are you most proud of over the past year?

The growth of Faculty Development during the pandemic and the launch of the Clinician Educator Diploma program.

What do you enjoy most about working for the college/university?

My colleagues, the sense of belonging and work/life balance Faculty Development has provided me.

You're an administrative coordinator in Faculty Development. Could you sum up your role in 1-2 sentences?

I administratively support Faculty Development but also manage the office as a whole. I work independently, planning, coordinating and monitoring the smooth delivery of all aspects of operational services.
