Getting to know Dr. Payam Dehghani - Cardiology Regina
Background
Payam Dehghani is a clinical co-director of the Prairie Vascular Research Inc (PVRI), and an Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He is an interventional cardiologist at the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and director of the Adults with Structural Heart Disease Clinic.
Area of Research
His research focuses on acute myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy and the development of data-driven guidelines and therapies for cardiovascular disease. He has been successful in securing funding for multiple investigator-initiated trials.
“Big” Research Moment
Real estate is all about location, location, location! Research is all about collaboration, collaboration, collaboration! This all came together recently in North American COVID-19 ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NACMI) registry. Dr. Dehghani was instrumental in having over 70 sites come together to establish a registry to understand heart attacks in COVID positive patients. He is currently working on multiple manuscripts because of this collaboration.

Future Aspirations for Research
- To put PVRI on the map not only as a successful center to recruit patients for clinical trials but to initiate investigator-initiated trials.
