Welcome

The Dermatology Subspecialty Training Program is a five-year program. The program provides robust dermatology training, enabling graduates to work independently as proficient dermatologists in both community and hospital settings. Although the program will be based in Regina, Saskatchewan, additional training sites will include Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Calgary, Alberta.

The curriculum offers residents comprehensive exposure to dermatology, utilizing the Competence by Design framework from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The first two postgraduate years focus on internal medicine foundations, with dermatology-relevant rotations. The third to fifth postgraduate years are dedicated to specialized dermatologic training for all age groups. Subspecialty training experiences within our program include patch testing, phototherapy, dermatopathology, wound care, dermatologic surgery, pediatric dermatology, laser therapy and teledermatology.

With a high faculty-to-student ratio, residents receive extensive, dedicated instruction. The curriculum includes protected academic half days, a dedicated research rotation and four elective blocks to tailor the educational experience to each resident’s interests. Additionally, a unique Rural/Remote Indigenous Community Dermatology Outreach rotation is featured in our program.

While clinical excellence is a major focus, we also emphasize skills for transitioning from residency to independent practice. The CanMEDS competencies are integrated into all training aspects, ensuring residents excel in all aspects of future practice.
