Wellness Survey
Our first Wellness Survery was conducted in September 2023 to guide our activities and initiatives. Below are the key highlights from the 2023 Department of Surgery Wellness Survey, which received responses from 100 out of 350 staff surgeons.

- 63% feel valued by their immediate supervisor/Division Lead

68% have considered decreasing work hours/retiring in the previous month

64% feel a great deal of stress because of their job

62% don’t get enough sleep and 70% spend multiple hours on EMR at home

62% feel that the Department of Surgery does not prioritize wellness

47% feel overwhelmed by clinical workload

38% have chronic pain secondary to work (mostly back pain)

25% have felt down/depressed for 2 or more weeks in a row

64% indicated interest in the development of further wellness initiatives
