About
Dr. Burnett has extensive experience across the United States and Canada in public health, health equity, research, administration, and academia. She joins us from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) where she served as the Vice President, Health Equity. In this role, she oversaw the U.S. equity portfolio which included large-scale and place-based national and local equity initiatives spanning the health-care ecosystem.
Prior to joining IHI, Dr. Burnett held senior leadership and faculty roles at Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Virginia, where she advanced education, research, and community engagement with a strong focus on equity and social justice. She has additional experience in Canada, including at the University of Western Ontario.
Her research focuses on the structural drivers of health inequities and identifying solutions through a structural justice lens. A recognized leader in her field, she has served on numerous boards and holds multiple professional distinctions, including Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and Advanced Practice Public Health Registered Nurse.
