Meadow Lake is a city located in Northern Saskatchewan in the Boreal Forest and traces it's name to the early French traders, who knew it as Lac Des Prairies. The population is a little over 5,000 people, but the patient population is a lot larger - servicing a variety of other communities such as outpost clinics, and visitors to our primary health care centre and hospital. HOSPITAL
There are 22 hospital beds: 5 paediatric, 13 acute medicine meds, 1 palliative bed, 2 obstetrical beds and 1 high acuity observation bed.

 

CLINIC
12-13 physicians. Start between 8-9am and finish around 4pm depending on who you are working with each day. 4-6 ER call per month, however the group is very flexible with time off requests.12 hour ER shifts. For providers who do Obstetrics Call, they are 24 hour call shifts (typically 4 per month). Averaging around 200 deliveries per year, including managing high risk pregnancies. Also backup for OR/anesthesia.

COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE RESOURCES
There are 4 teams (Team A, B, C, D) each comprised of 3-4 physicians, 1 RN (who can help with tasks/injections/ labs/ wound care/ suture removal/ assist with CDM visits, etc.), Diabetic Educator Nurse, Dietitian, Clinic Pharmacist, Cardiac/Pulmonary rehab nurse, a few NPs, and homecare/Palliative Care Nurses. Visiting specialists include Gynecology, Orthopaedics, Otolaryngology. There is also an OARS clinic that is run on a weekly basis. Opportunities to spend time with physicians who have extra training in HIV/Hep C.

TRAVEL CLINICS
There are multiple outpost clinics that are split amongst the physician group. Most of these clinics will be family medicine oriented. Recent additions include two new communities where they primarily do prenatal, postpartum, well baby visits with a portable bedside butterfly ultrasound.

  • Each condo has 2 bedrooms.
  • Occassionally, sharing is required in the condos when there are multiple learners.
