La Ronge
COMMUNITY OVERVIEW
Treaty 6
Situated near the geographic centre of Saskatchewan, La Ronge began in 1904 as a fur trading post and meeting place, but with the decline of hunting and the fur market, La Ronge has diversified into other areas. Many of the Dene, Cree, and white trappers used La Ronge as their central service point. Find out more by visiting www.laronge.ca

There are 22 hospital beds: 5 paediatric, 13 acute medicine beds, 1 palliative bed, 2 obstetrical beds and 1 high acuity observation bed.

The physician group is funded for ≈12 FTE positions which are filled by a mix of salary-based and itinerant contract physicians. The clinic is open from 830am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Residents attend rounds from 0830-1000 on weekdays. Call expectations for visiting learners are from 0800-2300 and occur once per week with one weekend split call per month.

Work directly with several RN Case Managers who provide diabetes education, Hepatitis C management, management of patients with complex social needs as well as other chronic disease case management. We also have two social workers working with our local opioid antagonist therapy program as well as an HIV and Hepatitis C social worker at the clinic.

Fly to four northern communities via float plane, helicopter, and wheeled aircraft.

The area is home to a large, resilient, and incredibly diverse Woodland Cree Indigenous population, as well as a large and equally diverse Settler population of about 7,000.
