Certificates or Master's Degree in Health Professions Education

The Certificates and Master of Education in Health Professions Education are intended for health professionals in medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, rehabilitation science, veterinary medicine, kinesiology, or pharmacy and nutrition. These programs help improve your education knowledge and teaching skills, and better prepare you for educational leadership roles. 


PROGRAM DETAILS

Students have the option of completing one or both of the two four-course certificates as stand-alone graduate programs, or students may ladder the certificates into the Master of Education in Health Professions degree program - receiving credit for all three.  All courses are offered online. 


Graduate Certificate in Quality Teaching in Health Professions Education:

  • Build competency in instructional teaching methods including the effective use of technology, experiential learning, simulations, small and large group teaching, clinical teaching, teaching in rounds, at the bed-side, and other work-based environments.
  • Build competency in effective student assessment in applying and promising practices in effective inter and intra-professional teams and collaborations in local contexts.

Graduate Certificate in Improving Teaching and Learning in Health Professions Education:

  • Build leadership competency in educational program evaluation.
  • Build competency in leading for learning in the health professions.
  • Apply organizational development theories to improving teaching and development.
  • Build knowledge and skills to take on a variety of leadership, management, or organizational roles in educational development within institutions. 

Master's Degree in Health Professions Education:

  • Demonstrate applied knowledge and skills to take on a variety of leadership, management, or organizational roles in educational development.
  • Demonstrate applied knowledge and skills to conduct health professions education research and program evaluation.
  • Advance your career by earning a graduate degree in designation.
  • Application Information

ADMISSIONS

  • Four-year degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university.
  • Cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in the last two years of study (e.g. 60 credit units).
  • Teaching responsibilities and/or the ability to demonstrate teaching experience.
  • Language proficiency.
