By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • List five academic or non-academic consequences of excessive student workload
  • Describe two ways that student workload is usually calculate
  • Explain the following student work as the product of effort and achievement
    o The four components of student academic effort
    o Resources that correspond to the components of student academic effort
    o The difference between course requirements and course demands
    o The relationship between course demands and cognitive load (as well as psychological, physical, and social load)
  • Explain how the new model of student effort and work can be used to influence education and teaching and learning
